Cartoon 50: Earthquake in Bushehr
On April 9, 2013, a 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck Iran’s Bushehr Province, killing at least 37 people and injuring several hundred more. The earthquake reportedly leveled at least two villages in southwestern Iran and caused damage in at least 50 more. Domestic relief efforts are underway, and international offers include aid from the United Nations and the United States. Bushehr Province is also the location of Iran’s only nuclear power station, though officials report it has not been damaged.
