Gissou Nia Joins the Campaign as Deputy Director
The International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran welcomes with great enthusiasm Ms. Gissou Nia as the Campaign’s new Deputy Director.
“Gissou brings to the Campaign deep knowledge of international law and human rights issues in Iran,” said Hadi Ghaemi, Executive Director of the Campaign. “She will bring invaluable skills, experience, and passion to the Campaign.”
Ms. Nia served as Executive Director of the Iran Human Rights Documentation Center (IHRDC) from 2011-2014. Under her leadership, IHRDC produced comprehensive human rights reports on political prisoners, women, ethnic and religious minorities, and other marginalized groups.
Prior to her tenure at IHRDC, Ms. Nia worked on war crimes trials at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), and assisted in proceedings at the International Criminal Court (ICC) related to allegations of crimes against humanity committed during the 2007/2008 post-election violence in the Republic of Kenya.
Ms. Nia received her law degree from Rutgers University – Camden School of Law. She lectures and publishes widely on human rights developments in Iran, as well as the rule of law in post-conflict and transitional societies. Her work has been profiled by NPR, CNN, BBC, Forbes, and other major media outlets.
