Death of Davoud Sadri
Davoud Sadri, a 25-year-old electrical technician, was shot during public protests of presidential election results. He was killed in Azadi square at the beginning of the Jenah highway amidst shooting by Basij forces from their Meghdad base.
His half-dead body, along with 17 others who were shot, was transferred to Rasoule Akram hospital. Hours later, he died as a result of severe injuries to his heart and spleen.
His family started looking for him immediately, but during the following five days they only received contradicting responses from officials regarding how he died, who shot him, and where his body was being kept.
Ali Jamali, a member of the central council of Advar-e Tahkim-e Vahdat (the alumni association of the Office for the Consolidation of Unity), and a family member of Davoud Sadri says, “The Sadris went to the hospital right after they heard the news, but hospital authorities refused to provide any information regarding his situation. That day, the presence of security forces in the hospital was evident. After awhile the news regarding Davoud Sadri’s death was announced to his family, but they refused to grant them his body.”
The Sadris say their son was not involved in political activities.
It should be noted that of the 18 injured people who were transferred to this hospital on June 15, eight died, a fact confirmed by the Islamic Republic’s authorities. The bodies of these eight were transferred to forensics, and their families’ efforts to receive the bodies were ineffective for some time.
Jamali said, “Finally after 5 days of consistent round-the-clock follow-ups, the family could get Davoud Sadri’s body on June 21. He was buried in Imamzadeh Ebrahim in Karaj under security measures.
The political committee’s director of Advar-e Tahkim-e Vahdat has added, “Unfortunately, the way the regime has treated the innocent protesters who participated in the peaceful demonstrations with bare hands, and the high number of dead, injured and detainees shows the low tolerance of the Islamic Republic for those who criticize the present situation. That right after the first protests against the results of an election- and not against the totality of the regime- left 30 deaths (as announce by the officials) is evidence for this claim.
It is worth mentioning that the fortieth day ceremony of Davoud Sadri’s death will be held on Friday July 31, in Imam Ali’s mosque in Sharake Andeashe, Azadi Boulevard.
