Fatemeh Goftari
UPDATE: (22 October 2008) Fatemeh Goftari was taken to the Central Prison of Sanandaj on 22 August 2008 to begin her three-month prison sentence.
Fatemeh Goftari, Yaser Goli’s mother, was arrested for the first time on 14 January 2008. She was on her way to pick up some of her son’s possessions after receiving a telephone call to do so, and was apprehended by intelligence officers.
Forty (40) days after her arrest, Fatemeh Goftari’s bail was set at 15 million Tomans (156 USD) and on 1 June 2008, she was arraigned and sentenced to eight months in jail. The sentence was subsequently reduced to three months by the Court of Appeals of Kurdistan.
While her son, Yaser Goli, is imprisoned under uncertain circumstances, Fatemeh Goftari began serving her prison sentence on 22 August 2008.
