Reza Daghestani

UPDATE: (30 March 2008) The authorities released Reza Daghestani, after he posted bail in the amount of 400 million Rials ($44,000), on March 19, 2008. He is subject to further prosecution.

Reza Daghestani (27), detained on February 21, 2008, is an Azerbaijani activist. Intelligence agents raided his house and confiscated his books and personal computer. He is at risk of being tortured.

Daghestani is a student at Payam Nour University in the city of Naqadeh. He is also the managing editor of the student publication, Chanli Bael. The authorities have not allowed his family or lawyer to visit him. His associates are seriously concerned that Daghestani is being subjected to torture.
