Two Protesters Arrested Outside Iranian Embassy in Beijing
On the anniversary of Iranian elections, two students of human rights were arrested in Beijing outside the Iranian Embassy as they carried a sign that read: “Free Iran, say NO to Theocracy.” Iranian Embassy authorities apparently could not tolerate even two protesters with the impending visit of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to Beijing and contacted the Beijing Police to arrest the protesters.
Polona Florijančič, originally from Slovenia, is a student at London’s Brunel University and is on a study trip to Beijing with fellow university students. During her arrest, she looked the Iranian authority in the eyes and told him, “You can torture your own people but you can’t touch me.”
Chinese interrogators who questioned the two students did not know anything about Iran. They asked them, “What is an Ayatollah? What is a theocracy? Why did you do this?”
