Cartoon 7: Chains and Pains (For Narges Mohammadi)
Narges Mohammadi, a human rights lawyer and deputy director of the Defenders of Human Rights Center, began a six-year sentence on 22 April 2012 for “assembly and collusion against national security,” “membership in the Defenders of Human Rights Center,” and “propagating against the regime”—in other words, for doing her job. Like many prisoners of conscience, she has young children, five-year-old twins, whom she is allowed to see for only a few minutes per week, at highly supervised and guarded visitation sessions.
