Cartoon 155: Proud
Just a few weeks after the publication of a 1988 audio recording on the late Grand Ayatollah Hosseinali Montazeri’s website in which he told Judiciary and Intelligence Ministry officials at a meeting that the mass executions of political dissidents inside Iranian prisons is “the Islamic Republic’s worst crime,” one of those officials, Mostafa Pourmohammadi, who is now the Justice Minister of Rouhani administration, said in a public speech that he has no regrets about his actions in 1988. “I am proud of carrying out God’s orders,” he told the crowd in Khorramabad in Lorestan Province on August 28, 2016. Mr. Pourmohammadi had denied any involvement in the executions during his campaign for the cabinet position in 2013. This is Touka Neyestani’s take on the issue.
