Fact Sheets and Infographics on Human Rights in Iran
These fact sheets and infographics have been produced by the Center for Human Rights in Iran on issues including deaths of political prisoners in state custody, disability rights in Iran and a general overview of the human rights situation in the country.
1) Children Rights in Iran, July 2019
At a time when international headlines are focused on Iran, little attention is given to the millions of children in the country who are subjected to a broad range of abuses and rights violations, including scant legal protection against physical or sexual violence, widespread child marriage and labor, and execution for crimes committed while juveniles. While there is a committed constituency for children’s rights in Iran, serious issues remain unaddressed, as highlighted in this fact sheet.
2) Internet in Iran, March 2019
The internet and social media apps are heavily restricted and censored in Iran. As a result of the growing number of Iranians with internet access, state policies and technical initiatives have increasingly focused on strengthening state control over the internet. From the scale of internet use, to the level of censorship, to the structure of the governmental entities that make internet policy, this fact sheet closely examines the state of the internet in Iran.
3) Deaths in State Custody of Political Prisoners, December 2018
How many political prisoners have died in Iran since 1999? Where did they die, what were they imprisoned for, and has anyone been accountable for their deaths? This infographic examines the cost of peaceful activism in the Islamic Republic by charting the stories of political prisoners who have perished in prisons throughout the country under the watch of two judiciary chiefs as well as the supreme leader.
4) Disability Rights in Iran, August 2018
People with disabilities in Iran regularly face stigma and discrimination from government social workers, healthcare workers, and others. Many remain trapped in their homes, unable to live independently and participate in society on an equal basis with others. This fact sheet examines the scale of disability and accessibility in the country, including the everyday barriers people with disabilities meet when going to government offices, healthcare centers, and when using public transportation.
5) Human Rights in Iran, March 2018
The first step towards upholding and protecting human rights is education and awareness. This fact sheet highlights the scale of rights abuses and violations in Iran against groups at risk including children, women, and political prisoners. It places Iran on global indexes rating the degree to which basic rights including freedom of expression and freedom of religion are allowed in the country. The cases of prominent political prisoners who have been sentenced to prison under catchall national security charges are also spotlighted.
