Weekly Cartoon (15): Earthquakes? What Earthquakes?

On Saturday, August 11, 2012, two earthquakes struck East Azerbaijan province in northwestern Iran. At least 300 people were killed, many more injured, and there was widespread destruction of buildings in villages throughout the province. Meanwhile, Iranian state-run television news did not report the earthquakes nor the progress of the recovery effort as it happened on Saturday, instead broadcasting regularly scheduled programming. Iranian politicians and members of the public criticized the state television’s lack of attention to the earthquake and the exceedingly long delays in coverage.
