Cartoon 94: Man Hanged for Innovation in Islamic Principles and Insulting Jonah
Mohsen Amiraslani, 37, was hanged at Rajaee Shahr Prison in Karaj on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 on charges of “corruption on earth, innovation in primary and secondary principles of Islam, and new interpretation of the Qur’an,” including “insulting Prophet Jonah.”
“A Rajaee Shahr Prison official contacted this prisoner’s family and asked them to go see Mohsen for the last time. After their visit, prison staff told the family that they could pick up their son’s body the following day at Behesht-e Sakineh, a remote cemetery outside Karaj,” a source told the Campaign on September 23.
This is cartoonist Touka Neyestani’s take on Mohsen Amiraslani’s execution.
