Heavy Police Presence, Clashes, and Arrests of at Least 10 People in Mashad
Eyewitnesses have told the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran that Basij forces had a widespread presence in Tehran and other cities such as Mashad, during a fresh wave of protests in Iran. Police and Basij forces were present everywhere, especially around university campuses, preventing peaceful gatherings. Clashes were reported between security forces and people.
In Mashad, according to an eyewitness, there were scattered protests and confrontations around Mellat Park and the campus of Ferdowsi University, leading to several arrests. No detailed information is available about the number of people arrested, though another eyewitness reported that at least 10 people were arrested in Mellat Park. “From 10 to 11 a.m., there was a heavy presence of police and plainclothes forces inside universities in Mashad like Ferdowsi, Azad, Sadjad, and Payam Nour. The forces prevented students from congregating,” he said, adding that he had witnessed the confrontation of police forces with students.
