Editor Awaits Trial For Feminist Website Content

Noushin Ahmadi Khorasani, a women’s studies researcher and member of the One Million Signatures Campaign, was released today after she appeared before the Evin Prison Court “to provide some explanations,” and was informed of her charges.

Khorasani was interrogated when she first appeared in court on Tuesday following a summons, and was asked to return the next day to meet with “case analysts.”

On Wednesday she was informed of her charges of “propagation activities against the regime through: a) writing and publishing content against the regime on the Feminist School website, and b) participation in the illegal gatherings after the 2009 elections,” according to the Feminist School website.

After being informed of her charges, Khorasani defended herself and she was released to a custodian [instead of bail, a custodian is an individual who promises the court to ensure that the suspect will return to the authorities when necessary.]  She will be free until her trial date.

Noushin Ahmadi Khorasani is a writer, sociologist, women’s rights activist, one of the founders of the One Million Signatures Campaign, and Editor-in-Chief of the Feminist School website. She was previously arrested for her participation in the peaceful gathering of 12 June 2006 and was tried on 4 March 2006 along with 32 other women’s rights activists. At the time she was represented by Nasrin Sotoudeh, a human rights lawyer who herself is in prison at this time.
