Police Presence, At Least Ten Arrested in Mashad

Eye witnesses told the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran that Basij forces had a widespread presence in Tehran and other cities such as Mashad during a fresh wave of protests in Iran. Police and Basij forces were present all over town, especially around university campuses, preventing peaceful gatherings. Clashes were also reported.

In Mashad, according to an eye witness, there were scattered protests and confrontations around Park Mellat and the Ferdowsi University campus, leading to several arrests. No detailed information is available about the number of people arrested, though another eye witness reported the arrest of at least 10 people inside Park Mellat. “From 10 to 11 a.m., there was heavy presence of police and plainclothes forces inside Mashad university campuses such as Ferdowsi, Azad, Sadjad, and Payam Noor Universities. The forces prevented congregation of the students,” he said, adding that he had witnessed the confrontation of police forces with students.
