Behzad Bagheri

UPDATE: (27 March 2008) The authorities released Behzad Bagheri, after posting bail in amount of one billion Rials ($110,000), on March 16, 2008. He is subject to further prosecution.

Behzad Bagheri, arrested on December 14, 2007, is a student activist. Intelligence agents arrested Bagheri and more than 60 other students during a nationwide sweep last November to January.

In February and March 2008, the authorities released most of the detainees, but only after collecting heavy bail amounts in the range of 500 million-2 billion Rials ($55,000-$220,000). As of March 5, 2008, Bagheri and five other students remained in detention.
