Cartoon 68: Chain Murders: 15 Years Later
Fifteen years after the chain murders of Iran, which began with the killings of Dariush and Parvaneh Forouhar, their daughter Parastou Forouhar hoped to hold a memorial ceremony at her house in Tehran this week. The Iranian authorities, however, prevented people from entering her home, even blocking the street.
Parvaneh and Dariush Forouhar were prominent and founding members of the Nation of Iran Party, a party seeking secular democracy and the separation of religion and state founded in 1951 in opposition to the Shah. Due to their activism, they were placed under constant surveillance until their death by stabbing in 1998.
