Mashad Student Activist Amir Sheibani Imprisoned for the Fourth Time since the Elections
In an interview with the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran, a Mashad political activist said that student activist Amir Sheibani has been arrested for the fourth time. Following the elections protests, Sheibani was arrested several times, once running away from the Ansar forces who had gone to arrest him at his home; he was eventually arrested. Over the past seven months, Amir Sheibani was summoned by the Revolutionary Courts, Ministry of Information News Headquarters, and other Mashad security forces, where he was repeatedly interrogated.
His parents’ home was also stormed several times. According to this student activist’s family, he has been repeatedly beaten and tortured at Police Headquarters, Police Intelligence Unit, and Mashad IRGC Intelligence detention centers.
The 21-year-old Mashad resident is currently in Mashad’s Vakil Abad Prison. Last year, Amir Sheibani spent two weeks in detention at Mashad’s Ministry of Information. Initially he was arrested during Mashad post-election protests on August 6, 2009 and released a day later. He was arrested again on September 14, 2009, as he was inviting people to participate in the Quds Day protests and had to spend ten days in solitary confinement at Ministry of Information and Police Headquarters detention centers. He was released on September 23, 2009.
Sheibani was arrested again on December 9, 2009, for participating in an Student Day demonstrations at Ferdowsi University. Ferdowsi University authorities had issued a permit for these demonstrations and Sheibani’s illegal arrest kept him in solitary confinement for two weeks after which he was released on bail.
The political activist who talked to the Campaign told us that Amir Sheibani’s last illegal arrest took place on January 27, 2010, when he was summoned to Mashad Revolutionary Courts and was transferred to an unknown Mashad IRGC Intelligence detention center without reason.
Sheibani was not allowed to have any visits with his family, nor to inform them of the reasons or location of his detention. He was kept in solitary confinement at the IRGC Intelligence detention center until he was transferred to Mashad’s Vakil Abad Prison.
