UPDATE: (26 March 2008) Ejlal Ghavami was released on December 26, 2007 for medical treatment. He is currently undergoing treatment for eye infection.
Ejlal Ghavami, serving a three year sentence, is a journalist in the Western province of Kurdistan. He was arrested on July 9, 2007.
Ghavami is a member of the editorial board of Payam Mardom (People’s Message). On June 9, 2007, Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court in Sanandaj prosecuted Ghavami on charges of “acting against national security,” and “propaganda against the system.”
In 2005, the authorities detained Ghavami for 65 days.
