Political Prisoners at Rajaee Shahr Prison Sign Condolence Message for Osanloo Family
Sixty-three political prisoners inside Ward 4, Hall 12, of Rajaee Shahr Prison in Karaj wrote a message of condolences to the family of Afshin Osanloo for the political prisoner’s death. The International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran received the message for publication.
The Respectable Osanloo Family:
Afshin Osanloo left us innocently and in silence. With his passing, all of us are mourning the loss of a dear man who wished the world to be a more beautiful place and its people prosperous. This labor activist’s life ended when his kind heart could no longer take the pressure, limitations, and illegal behavior. We, prisoners inside Hall 12 of Rajaee Shahr Prison, extend our condolences to you and your loved ones on the passing of our friend and cellmate.
Labor activist Afshin Osanloo, 42, the brother of labor leader Mansour Osanloo and a member of the Tehran Bus Drivers union, was arrested in 2010. He was sentenced to five years in prison on charges of “collusion and assembly with the intent to act against national security.” He was transferred from Evin Prison to Rajaee Shahr Prison last year. Afshin Osanloo died of a heart attack at Rajaee Hospital in Karaj on the night of Thursday, June 20, 2013. Upon completion of his prison term, Afshin Osanloo would have been released in March 2014.
