For Iranian workers…
This Campaign video highlights the plight of workers in Iran.
Some 70% of Iranian workers live below the official poverty line, 90% of Iranian laborers have temporary employment contracts offering no job security, and 19,974 workers lost their lives in work-related accidents last year in Iran.
Yet workers are not allowed to collectively bargain for pay, for contracts, or for safety standards in independent labor unions. Strikers are often arrested and risk losing their jobs. And labor leaders face long prison sentences.
Iran’s labor practices are in violation of its own laws and its international labor rights obligations, including those of the International Labor Organization (ILO), of which Iran is a member.
